I too think about safety often. (As you already know)
When I do, I envision all the ways I trust myself. I trust myself to show up, to gather resources, to share resources, to provide for myself, to respect myself, and so many things…. It’s from the place of trust that I begin to create safety.
And if every single thing I currently rely on fell away tomorrow?
Whoa….. I dunno. I suppose I’d trust myself to let go with grace as I dignify those around me,
I couldn't make the meet up but them's some big ponders you got rolling around, Sarah. I've been more than a bit obsessively watching Dr. Abdul El Sayed here in Michigan, shake it up and in answer to a question at a press conference this morning ( you couldn't hear the question) but obviously about Israel, Gaza, his answer was about being willing to meet the trauma of the past and not be controlled by it, the "hurt people, hurt people" , so let's stop hurting people. Can we dismantle the massive structures of violence in the name of defense through such a simple prescription? Dr., Dr., write me a prescription for these blues. these worried blues. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cHvgKaPmshA
What was the movie you mentioned? I get optimism from Kiss the Ground (or whatever was the first in series) and Groundswell on amazon. I selfishly would like a video tour of your gardens if you can include sometime.
The movie I mentioned was "Earth's Greatest Enemy." It's not a feel good movie but an intense documentary about the Pentagon and US Military spending. I found it hard but very valuable. I was so affected by the movie that I actually wrote about it here if you wanna take a look: https://sarahbush.substack.com/p/willingness-and-your-imagination
Also, I will try to share some photos of my gardens soon--thanks for wanting to see them!
I'm going to my best to come to the "Second Cup" cafe tomorrow. Maybe a conversation based on your email/blog? I've been rolling around in my body and mind and heart similar questions that you have posed. Our evolution is calling us!
I love that Kristine--hope to see you there! I feel like everywhere I look, i see people talking about safety in some way, shape, or form--I think it's in the air and I'd love for us to explore it together!
The first baby step was when you alerted to the ancient conundrum. The next step was when you became curious about its source, history, operational characteristics, and consequences. The current step is the courage to speak your interest publicly. You are gaining strength, stability, and agency with each step. You have gone from tentative staggering to drum major, leading the way forward with style. Good for you.
These are great questions you raise, Sarah, and it’s wonderful that you are encouraging us all to think about them. I am sorry I missed the Cafe this week. I hope to participate next time!

Trusting oneself as the cornerstone--that is beautiful Teyani. Thank you for sharing that.
