Sarah, i’m really blown away by the beauty of these photo combinations of your swatches and the landscapes. Seeing your sets of swatches enables me to better see all the colors in the landscape. And I think of myself as somebody who pays attention to color in the landscape, as a lover of nature. And yet, what you did here makes me see more. I find that fascinating. and it was beautiful and inspiring.
Oh Laura, thank you! It's so fun to really observe the colors in the landscape and then sift through the dyed fabric for corresponding matches. It did make me realize I need to create more variations of grey with my exhaust dyed fabrics--which you do with a dip in an iron bath. I will be experimenting more with various small percentages of iron--.5% and 1% for sure as a 2% iron bath made a very dark grey with my particular well water!
I would love to see you work a collection of tiny abstract fiber landscape abstracts with those fabulous fabrics. Of course, I will love seeing whatever you create, my gifted and giving friend. Now, about that intention thing . . . I'm looking forward to another intuitive abstract painting class, starting Saturday, and I am loving the way you articulated having intention - it's a good counterbalance for that push for spontaniety that is so front and center in class. Great brain food in this post, my dear. Thank you.
I'm so glad about that and would love to hear how it goes. (What popped into my mind just now is how you could bring some great garden knowledge and love into your line and color work on Saturday--since for us passionate gardeners, it's our especially obsessive time of year--so much unfolding, peeking out, bursting forth!!) But whatever you choose, I'm sure it will be a perfect experiment.
P.S. It snowed here yesterday May 6--that's one of the spring gardening challenges in the southern Rockies!
Sarah, I absolutley love those colors, we live in an aria similar to yours with the rolling hills, sage & rabbit brush, ponds and pine trees...those photos of your cloth work are so full of something that gives off an energy into my being, the material feels so warm and comefortable, like I just want to wrap myself up in them...I could look at those pics and always get a good feeling every day...
Oh Phyl, I love that you can feel the energy from the cloth. Working with the natural dyes this past winter has had such an impact on me and I find the cloth samples mesmerizing myself--I can just stare and stare at them. Perhaps it's the plant energy really emanating from the colors--they have a gentleness I find palpable. I'm so glad you can feel it too!
Oh you mean like a print of the landscape photo and colors next to each other? Or just the fabrics? Also, did you happen to see my little video of my natural dye palette? Here it is on my homepage: https://www.sarahbushartworks.com/
no, I meant just the fabric ones, but they do of course ride well with the photo combination... if I had a printer I would try to steal a copy :) for myself... hmm maybe you need to put your 'signature' on them all, after all, no small amount of work/creationing has gone into them...yes, you should do that :)

I'd love to see those greys once you make them! :)

Yes, my gardens always play into my art. Stay toasty and enjoy true spring when it arrives!

I do, I want to have a copy of them or at least one that I could hang on my wall to look at, so you should consider making them as such perhaps... :)

Oh, I was just trying to figure out how to send you an image of the ones you liked...but you'd probably need a printer!
I love the pallets you have created with your cloth.. I think my eye is deeply attracted because it IS the presentation of nature ♥️
thank you Teyani--and I like that description! <3
