Adore those flags and puppets in the produce section! Well, all of them are great—but the rich color of the fruit and the unexpectedness of the sign brings needed humor & vibrancy. Thanks Sarah! I am inspired…

Yay Eliza, so glad you're inspired! That makes me happy. And I totally agree about the produce backdrops--it was gratifying to put the 'flag' with the blue words in the yellow lemons and the trump flag with the yellow background in the sea of red tomatoes--a little aesthetic joy in the process that I didn't expect. :D

I LOVE your pennants! Totally love them! And it is SO important to get these thoughts out there.

An idea for a pennants:

Thank an immigrant for picking these for you.

Never trust a felon

Take back your independence

Thank you Teyani! Especially love "thank an immigrant" as the "Immigrants Picked this Produce" might be a little neutral for the apolitical to get!

This post is filled with good energy and inspiration! I love the signs so much, everything from the idea, to the puppets in the produce.

I would love to see both those films too.

My experience of beauty and awe this week has been courtesy of the Northern CA coast. New spring foliage, towering redwoods, wildflowers in bloom, waves crashing against black rocks, it’s almost too much beauty to take in.

Ah thank you Tina! Maybe you'd like to grab a small set of office labels from a big box store and leave tiny messages across the country as well! Or a puppet or three! :D

And love hearing about the Northern CA coast. I've never seen the redwoods, it's on my bucket list.

And even though it's a lot--YES! to the beauty onslaught crashing over you, like the waves against the black rocks...that said, I think you'd like Gaucho Gaucho's black and white filming--black and white movies always soothe me because there' less visual information...it feels like someone stroking my forehead...a rest for my eyes.

The sight of six bluebird fledglings at my feeder, the sound of my little pond's frogs, and the squirrel rumbles on my deck have brought me down to earth, which is a fine place to be.

Wow, what a treat to see the bluebird pre-teens. So much beauty on this planet to feed our souls.

And I think you'd like hearing the dialect--to me, it sounded like Spanish with an Italian accent!

Expand full comment
Laura's avatar

Yes, a lot of Argentinian accents sound exactly like that! It's because of the huge volumes of Italian immigrants who went to Argentina, starting in the 1850s and continuing through the middle of the 1900s. It's interesting that immigrants could have such a large effect on the accent of their adopted country!

Yes! But also, I went to that movie with an Argentinian friend, and she thought this particular group was speaking a dialect. I hope you get to see it, as I'd love to discuss afterward!

I love seeing the photos of your puppet signs in the stores. They look awesome! So impactful!

You’re definitely right that daring to put up your signs, as well as having a system for doing so, it’s a big part of it.

After finally going out and buying some stickers, like the ones you suggested, I just ended up putting my signs all over Walmart, without using any stickers. I just stuck them in anywhere I could sort of get them to stand up.

I suppose now I should make another round of signs!

Yes, remembering to carry them with you so you can put them up IS the big challenge. And if you write the same message on a page of little labels, it's easier and then you have it. For instance, you could have an entire little page of tiny stickers that all say, "Are Eggs Cheaper Yet?" and an entire page of stickers that all say, "Tax the Rich" and slip them into your pocketbook. Then, it's nothing to be at the grocery store and pop a few on egg cartons or whatever. A few minutes in front of the TV is a good time to replenish your stash!

Your signs are amazing! I love the idea of putting post-it notes or labels in different places. Just to jar or make people think.

I'm currently sitting outside listening to the birds and admiring my hanging plants vibrant with pink, purple, yellow, red, and orange flowers. It's my own private oasis of restoration.

Sarah you are a wonderful inspiring model of creativity and resistance!!! And for Paula- I get squirrel squabbles on my deck but it is the raccoons that rumble. They are truly ferocious. And yes, the earth, “a fine place to be.” Thank you everyone for all the good resistance on behalf of this good earth.

Thank you Rue! I have also witnessed Raccoons wars--not for the faint of heart. At my birdfeeder, the little ones are all willing to eat together but the bigger guys usually squabble and alo chase the little guys away. Except the woodpeckers--they eat and let eat. They also calmly stand their ground when other big guy attempt to chase them off. I love that.

Thank you Scotty--I love that you're joining in! They're all fun and easy to make. When I printed out the photos, I used a slightly heavier printer paper--28lb--and then just cut them up and used a glue stick to ad the 'speech bubbles.' I love putting words in their mouths!
