Fantastic essay. I support your manifesto! In particular, as someone who is not an artist but who appreciates art as a viewer, I like this line: "Perhaps we can even use art-making and art-experiencing to imagine ourselves into a more balanced future that honors all life on the planet: art as a path to wholeness in all its diversity and complexity." Yes! Art can bring a vision of wholeness forward into our society, for all of us -- while the individual artist can experience a magical or divine experience through the process of making it. That is a vision I support!
I agree with Robin! I look forward to every Pink Teacup! And "art is a conversation": so true. I am mostly on the grateful receiving end of art, but it seems to me that you Sarah are already tapping in to that magic path of the journey rather than the end product. Thank you for sharing your unique viewpoint, I always love it.
Thank you Lissa!! And being the "receiver" makes the makers of art so happy. My dad loved poetry but didn't feel like a poet. He'd memorize lines, share them and say, "Some people are poetry writers and some are poetry readers." What's a poem without a reader? An artwork without a viewer?
Absolutely love your writing style and view point on so many things and can't wait for the next post :) Seems as if you write exactly what I need to hear each time.

THANK you! I'm so glad it resonates because art is for everyone. Art is a conversation--I'm hoping that's another essay topic coming soon! :D
Love the way you make art and make sense - love you!
That means the world to me--Love you back!
Thank you, Sarah, for your commitment to sharing your process!
