Great video! I'm tired of being stuck. Pretty sure I need to get out of stuckness by using my tiny frequent bursts of energy and not fixating on the marathons. Thank you, Sarah!
I love that Teresa----matching your creativity activity to the way your energy is working right now--it makes me think you'll be in the flow that way as well because everything will be in alignment! I'll be so curious to hear how it goes!
This really spoke to me today! I feel like I have been stymied for a long time, years, and am just starting to break through my stymies (?? LOL?) in writing, by writing all the time, here in subs tact. I posted an essay today that was very cathartic. I realized how much I had changed in the last month in a half. then watching your video today, gave me much more emotional intelligence about obstacles. I love this way of thinking. I just had felt stuck for so long. But I think, getting to be creative, also is a way to unblock .
Yay China--I'm so glad to read this! And you're right that getting to be creative is also a way to unblock--it's the doing that creates inspiration rather than the "thinking about"...<3
Sarah I love this video. This concept is soooo helpful! To think that maybe what is holding you back is an obstacle, and then seek yo figure out what that obstacle is, and then think of how to remove the obstacle. (I purposely recapped that, to help cement the learning in my mind.)
I also find it so helpful to think that it may not be immediately obvious what the obstacle is. That seems funny at first — it seems like it would e obvious. But I can see that it might not always be obvious.
I also love your idea that the first obstacle might be your belief that it’s impossible to resolve the challenge. Whoa. Yes! To open oneself to the idea that something seemingly impossible might be possible. Wow. That’s powerful. Not always easy to have that faith, to open up to that, but powerful to even move in that direction.
I’m so glad! And yes, it IS powerful to create space for possibility, especially when we’ve held on to the thought that something is impossible….so exciting to make that kind of shift!
Thank you so much for this liberating Teacup, Sarah! First a political cartoon after President Biden withdraws from the race: imagine the local weatherman pointing to the map of the U.S. saying "High winds are expected from coast to coast today as Democrats breathe a collective sigh of relief...". Such a perfect example of an obstacle being removed, allowing something new to emerge; just like your figuring out what was needed to remove the blockage with the fabrics. Second, I loved the video, but I realized I have an advantage since I have experienced your presence through Zoom gatherings. Consequently, I have always imagined you saying the words and conveying the essence of your talk through your delightful personality, for ALL of your Pink Teacup blogs! So the video works just fine, and is a bonus for anyone reading this who hasn't "met" you before. My preference is written word, one of your many artistic talents. And third, you spoke to a blockage of my own regarding a space to support my freedom to express. As I first experienced in Touch Drawing with Deborah, art is messy and in the case of oils: prohibitively smelly in a small house with small rooms, and in the case of pastels: requiring air flow. I need a space in which I feel free to be messy, that I don't have to set up then take down every time I want to create. Because I do feel this constriction, this limiting barrier to creativity in my body. So, I will be sitting with this, and I so appreciate hearing of your broke friend figuring it out. I will find a way. As always, VERY enlightening!
Yay--thank you Lissa. And even that description of the cartoon was hilarious in its truth-telling. And a thought about your art making space restrictions--just something to consider as you sit with what works best--there are many wonderful art materials that don't smell or create dust that might do fine in a limited space or at a work table in a small room. Watercolors! Watercolor markers! Ink! Acrylic Paint! But you are also right that you need a place to be messy that you don't have to clean up and put away every time. Sometimes all that requires is a change of perception about how a particular room is supposed to 'be', but sometimes it means having to find somewhere other than home to do that work. I'll be so interested to hear what you figure out!
I loved the video! You've reached into the psyche of the creative, shared your experience and gave us food for thought as we navigate our journey. For months I've been creatively purging my studio of items I've carried with me from workplace to workplace for over 30 years. Just week I looked around in my studio and suddenly felt "free" to return to projects I've put off for decades because I had felt overwhelmed. Thank you for affirming that clutter can be a detriment.
I love that real life example Pat! By removing stuff, you literally created new psychic space for the unfinished projects to re-assert themselves in and be attended to. Physical changes creating energetic shifts! I genuinely find that exciting.
Brilliant, Sarah!!! I’ve been thinking outside of the box for a dance studio space - a beloved dance space for many of us was recently closed- and it’s working! Love seeing all that beautiful indigo fabric you’ve made! ❤️
Oooh! Thanks for the song! I am dancing to it, too! And thanking Joe Biden for doing the rare and good thing and stepping down when the time has come for others. Go Kamala!
And I love the video because I get to sink into those fabrics... I'm seeing an installation on clotheslines...
Well. I love every sentence in this comment! I'm so glad you listened to that song--I just love it. And yes about Biden having the grace to do the right thing...and Go Kamala!
And thank you for the kind words about the fabrics--love that installation thought about the clotheslines!!
Feeling hopeful and refreshed that I might find my creative obstacle! Wondering if I need a blank wall for post-its or something to map out writing goals. (Or maybe I just need some estrogen, speaking of estrogen!) Feeling the power and possibility of how things can change on a dime. Love seeing you and hearing you “in person”. More of these!! 😘
Thank you Nyla! And I think a blank wall with post it notes is worth a try--I think if you try it and it doesn't work, it might make you feel clearer about why not and then what might work instead! And yes to things changing on a dime! And yes to estrogen! :D
Great video with such good content. It made me get my jar of poem scraps off the shelf and right onto my desk by my computer so I can't miss it! Thank you!
I love hearing your voice! Only one suggestion from a former musician and that would be to try to damp down the echo - a few big soft things to absorb some of the echo in the room would be helpful. Meanwhile, I am DELIGHTED to hear and see you!
Oh interesting--funny, I didn't hear any echo myself--I will listen again and think about ways I could absorb the echoing in the room--thank you for a great tip!
I love this video! I’ve been missing having coffee with you in person while I’m out of state. I played this while I was making breakfast and it felt so good to hear your insights and see your beautiful face and indigo pieces right there with me in my kitchen. Thank you!
Oh thank you Katie! I look forward to being able to connect in person as well--I was hoping you weren't loving those early morning walks in Austin too much! We like having you in Taos! :D

but thats also why it hurts so much to be blocked in your creativity!!!
So true!

Thank you Leslie!

Oh wow--yay for new dance spaces! And thank you about the indigo! <3
I love everything about this! Including the theme song.🤗 it’s impossible to sit still while listening.
(And I suspect it would be awesome to have you curate a new music channel for me!)
Obstacles. Moving them, and opening to the new. Thank you for all the marvelous visions
Yay Teyani--and thank you! And I love that you checked out that song. So good right?
Oooh! Thanks for the song! I am dancing to it, too! And thanking Joe Biden for doing the rare and good thing and stepping down when the time has come for others. Go Kamala!

Yes, right—the clarity that comes from the experiment(s) until you figure out the obstacle(s).
Its so true about those "little things" too!
Thank you China--and I just love that about how such seemingly "little things" can make such a difference!
Great video with such good content. It made me get my jar of poem scraps off the shelf and right onto my desk by my computer so I can't miss it! Thank you!
Thank you Jami--and I love hearing this about your poem scraps--get them near you!
